Bella Hadid celebrates 5 months of sobriety

Must read

Bella Hadid is high on life, quite literally, after being five months sober — something she celebrated recently with a night out in Las Vegas.

Taking to Instagram, Hadid shared some stunning photos of herself in a red dress that she captioned “5mo 🚫 🍸🍾🍷”. Previously, she had also opened up about being “5 months alcohol-free” on TikTok.

“I have done my fair share of drinking. I loved alcohol and it got to the point where even I started to, you know, cancel nights out that I felt like I wouldn’t be able to control myself,” she said in a 2022-interview with Instyle magazine while sharing her decision to quit alcohol.

She also revealed that there came a time when it became hard for her to stop drinking, which also exacerbated her anxiety.

But, once she saw the scans revealing the effects of alcohol on her brain, it became “a lot harder to pick up the glass,” Hadid had told the outlet then.

Further opening up on not missing alcohol, Hadid shared, “I don’t feel the need because I know how it will affect me at 3 in the morning when I wake up with horrible anxiety thinking about that one thing I said five years ago when I graduated high school. There’s just this never-ending effect of, essentially, you know, pain and stress over those few drinks that didn’t really do much, you know?”

Can alcohol trigger anxiety?

“Alcohol is a known panicogen, which is referred to as a suffocation maker and can worsen as well as precipitate anxiety,” said Dr Kedar Tilwe, Consultant Psychiatrist, Fortis Hospital Mulund and Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi.

“However, people still turn towards alcohol when feeling down as it can initially make you feel better. But, it must be noted that while alcohol can initially cause a lessening of inhibitions, as the quantity increases, it slows down brain activity and can cause central nervous system (CNS) suppression which is associated with loss of coordination, slurring of speech, stupor, and coma,” he told indianexpress.com.
