Due to the reappearance of COVID-19, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has sanctioned the cancellation of the 2021 Ojude Oba festival.
The festival’s coordinator and Baagbimo of Ijebu, Chief Fassy Yusuf, issued a statement announcing the postponement.
The COVID-19 Delta variant has seen an increase in some states. The majority of Nigerians, however, are still opposed to the vaccine, according to THE FOLIO POST.
The festival, which showcases the Ijebus’ historic and distinct cultural heritage, draws visitors from all over the world.
According to the organizers, it is preferable to minimize avoidable health risks and save lives.
Due to the epidemic, the Ojude Oba event, which takes place two days after Eid-el Kabir (Sallah), would be canceled in 2020.
The cancellation in 2021 is only the second in more than a century of known history.
The Awujale, on the other hand, congratulated his citizens for Ijebuland’s peace, progress, and tranquility.
The country’s traditional monarch prayed for peace in all difficult areas and asked everyone to follow COVID-19 safety standards.
