During an attack on a project site in Imo on Tuesday, gunmen killed a police officer and six employees of Lee Engineering, a Nigerian oil and gas services business, authorities said.
The attack occurred in the Assa community of Imo State’s Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area.
Gunshot wounds were reported in an undefined number of people.
“We have designated the area a black spot, and we are making every attempt to apprehend the perpetrators,” Imo State police spokesman Michael Abattam said.
“Because the area is prone to attack, the leadership has put in steps to protect the personnel in the area,” he stated.
According to the Lee Engineering website, the company is working on a project in the area that entails the installation and construction of a gas primary treatment facility, as well as the supply of gas turbine generators and a waste heat recovery system.
